Spring Festival on Ponce

by Jack-pack on March 24, 2012

If you’ve been reading us for awhile you know that here at AGS HQ we love our festivals.  There’s nothing better than seeing the diversity of the Atlanta out in force and enjoying our green spaces along with a hefty dose of the arts be it musical or visual.  I am pleased to tell you about the Spring Festival on Ponce.

This festival will take place in the Olmstead chain of parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue in Druid Hills.  Fredrick Law Olmstead, Sr. was commissioned in the 1890s to design these parks.   He is perhaps our nation’s greatest creator of public spaces, having created Central Park in NYC, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, the Capitol grounds in Washington, DC, and even the Biltmore Estate. One of Olmsted’s architect colleagues, Daniel Burnham once said, “An artist, he paints with lakes and wooded slopes; with lawns and banks and forest covered hills; with mountain sides and ocean views.”

The festival will have an artist’s market with nearly 150 local artists on hand to display their works,a children’s play area, local food and beverage sales, and live acoustic music.  Pets are allowed on a leash.  Entrepeneur Alert!  They are still accepting submissions for food and beverage concessionaires and entertainment acts so hop on over to the web site and get busy!   The festival is the weekend of April 14-15th, so get your taxes done now and go enjoy yourself then!
